IT’S NOT EVEN AN OPINION, IT’S A FACT THAT INDEPENDENT MUSIC IS IMPORTANT
When you’re putting on a show your customers aren’t just the people paying for tickets, but also the bands. I love being among the artist community. I had Alexis Taylor from Hot Chip play and I was sitting with him and his pals instead of the label types and I felt very happy among them. I like to meander around between the business guys and the artsy creative guys. It’s an excellent place to be.
It’s unquestionable that headliners of festivals wouldn’t be there without starting out playing independent places, but also the bands that don’t headline. There is an element of pride when one of the bands you worked with early on headline a festival but there’s an element of just remembering them puking in your house or whatever. Foals are headlining Reading this year and Yannis used to do the door for me. It’s not even an opinion, it’s a fact that independent music is important.
